Last night the Orioles brought back the 1983 World Series Championship team. I was there stuck in the rain in the upper deck when the rains came. We, where under the cover up there then rain blasted in behind us, front of us and each side. I mean it came. We where stuck in the tunnel person to person when these drunks came in and where rude and obnoxious scaring kids and pissed off fathers. I thought for sure as they where cursing, offending those around them pushing their way back and forth threw the crowd of people, that some one was going to throw a punch and cause mass chaos. I know being young and drunk is fun but in this case buttoning the lip folks. So I decided to take the wife and nephew out into the heavy rain, high winds, lightning and run for the steps. I was told to try and stay where I was from Baltimore’s finest but I told him the circumstances and I couldn't stand their with my nephew being freighted with 100 adults standing over top of him and not being able to see nothing bus asses as people where screaming trying to be cool saying we are going to die over and over after each lightning bolt.
I just missed getting a foul ball. Ball zoomed just above the head of the guy in front of me tip the guys hand in front of my nephew over the head of my nephew who was eating his Hamburger hit the step next to him and up into the arms of a lucky bystander. I would of easily put my hands on this ball save for the fact I had a tray full of food in my lap. My eyes lit up as I was going to catch this ball. In that millisecond thought, do I catch this ball? Do I drop my tray and loose my $20 bucks in ballpark food? Like a goof I hoisted my tray up and almost purposely dropped it to make an attempt to catch a foul ball. I clutched my tray above my head like a goof and the ball sailed in front of me as I seen the ball hit the step I had missed my chance for a foul ball.
We did get to see Eddie, Cal, Palmer and others. I believe John Lowenstein was the only one not there who was invited. No way could you get in that autograph line though. Must have been a 1000 people one way and 1000 people the other way so it would of been a couple of hours possible waiting.
Anyhow all and all it was a good night even though the Orioles where down 2-1 in the top of the 6th with 2 outs as the Blue Jays scored in the top of the 6th. Had Jones scored Roberts in the bottom of the 5th it would have been 2-1 and a complete game. Orioles would have won. But no such luck as the game will be completed today at 12:30.-
